Star Trek Biggest History Moment was Capitalistic
A lot has been said about the Economics of Star Trek , from the new movie we know that Vulcans are taught the meaning of "excludable" and "rival." As Grek Mankiw, a Hardward Univeristy profesor, pointed recently.
From older episodes we know that on the Earth are no longer used money, there is a separation of public and private good, government must care about social questions. This all suggest that in the Star Trek world works some socialistic utopia. However the most important moment in the Star Trek history was definitely the first WARP (faster than light speed) flight, which opened way to the Universe and caused the first contact with Vulkans. Lets go to the video to realize what was Zefram Cochrane’s motivation.
Money, girls and beach! I even don’t like to fly. What can be more “capitalistic” than this? Actually greed is not always that bad Bill Gates left Harvard and had an idea that to achieve software quality will be required payment. And the result? He had started operation system revolution and later found the biggest private charity foundation in the world.
Despite of the Star Trek technological perfection, the world without money is one big unconsidered idea and I am not the first one who suggested that. So live long and prosper, oh and spend!
By the way Zefram rocks! See this one
